Is your child or teen acting out their emotions or withdrawn? Here are some signs that they may be struggling:
The therapists at Mountain View Therapy are highly experienced in helping children and teens.
How do we do therapy with children? We use a combination of Play, Art and Talk Therapy as well as working with parents.
Play Therapy
- Children often express themselves through the language of play
- The toys children pick are their words
- Through play they are able to express their emotions and ideas
- In therapy children learn to understand and express themselves
- Play will allow your child to work through their problems
Art Therapy
- Similar to play, art is another way for children to communicate
- They may use markers, paint, clay or other mediums
- Art therapist prompts can be both directive and non-directive
- Art can also be used to assess development and self-esteem
- Relieving anxiety and stress is also a benefit of Art Therapy
- Ashley Moffett, LMFT, is a trained Art Therapist
Talk Therapy with Children
- Along with Art and Play Therapy, kids benefit from talking
- We teach kids different ways to think about things
- Your child can learn new ways to cope with problems
- Tools for kids to mange their feelings
- Social skills to help them with friendships
- Family Therapy is also part of talk therapy with kids
What does Teen Therapy look like?
- We meet teens where they are at in their lives
- Their privacy is important for the therapy to be successful
- Parents are kept aware of their progress and safety issues
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is an evidence-based treatment
- Some teens may benefit from Art Therapy
- Teens can learn to better handle peer pressure
- Help for them to prevent self-destructive behavior
- Your adolescent can learn healthy coping skills
- They may need help to develop their social skills
- Often Family Therapy is an important part of treatment
